Good news! June seems to be technology month here at the library. A lot is happening. On Tuesday, June 26, we will be having new patron computers and printers installed. The bad news is that the computers may be unavailable for most of the day while the set-up takes place and the software is installed. In addition, the library received a grant from the Community Foundation of Eastern CT to purchase e-readers and iPads for the library. We have purchased 2 Kindles, 2 Nooks, and 2 iPads. The Kindles and Nooks will be available for checkout so that patrons may borrow them to try out the devices or just read best-sellers in digital format. The iPads will be for use within the library only. We are in the process of setting up and configuring the devices, developing policies, and downloading the books and apps. They should be available to patrons within a few weeks. We will be downloading mostly best-sellers to the e-readers, so if you have any suggestions for titles you would like to see downloaded to the Kindles or Nooks, please let us know. Also, if you know of any iPad apps you think would be useful and helpful to library patrons, we'd love to hear about those as well. Once the devices are available, we would like to have some feedback from patrons about how they like them and use them. We are marching headlong into the digital age, and we hope to hear from you along the way!
